David Crowder Band (part 2)

Here's another video clip from last Thursday's David Crowder Band concert in Indianapolis. The concert was part of his Church Music tour. I haven't written a full post about the concert yet, and have several more videos to share from it, so I'll share some opening comments here, and expand in future updates.

First, the concert was held at East 91st Street Christian Church. Having concerts in churches is a common occurrence for Contemporary Christian Music Bands, and this isn't the first concert we've been to in a church. Although this was the first concert we attended at E91 (as the church is known by it's members), it was not the first event we attended there, as we were regular Sunday attenders there until recently. Based upon our experience there every Sunday, we were pretty optimistic about the church as a concert venue.

Boy, were we disappointed! We got there fifteen minutes before the doors opened (which was an hour before the concert began) and there were several huge lines waiting to get in, including a line for "early access" ticket holders. The concert was sold as general admission, and the early access people had the entire front of the auditorium packed before regular ticket holders were allowed entry -- including standing in the area in front of the stage and down the aisles. There was not a good seat to be had in the house.

The opening bands were Seabird from Lexington, Kentucky, and Danyew from San Diego. I'd like to say they were good bands, but there were two problems: both bands sat so low on the stage that we could not see them at all, literally; and we could not hear them well enough to understand the words. While the opening bands played, it seemed nearly everyone around us was either sitting and engaging in idle conversation or milling about, seemingly oblivious to the concert going on around them.

One hour into the concert and my wife and I were both ready to leave if things didn't improve drastically when David Crowder took the stage.

Making Difficult Decisions

It was almost five months ago that our dog, Maddy, was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to have her leg amputated. Her condition has been declining steadily over the past few weeks. Today, I believe, we made the difficult decision to discontinue her cancer medicine.

It's hard to watch her suffer. She coughs almost all the time -- in fact, last night it seemed that she was up coughing non-stop the entire night. She's enjoyed five good months that she may not have had without the surgery, and we've become so much closer to her over those five months. Her time, I fear, is drawing near.

Just a sampling of the awesome show the David Crowder Band put on in Indianapolis Thursday night as part of their Church Music tour.

The show itself was quite awesome -- never realized how much I enjoy the music of the David Crowder Band.

Book Review: Merciless by Robin Parrish

In book three of his Dominion trilogy, Merciless, author Robin Parrish wraps up an incredible saga of good versus evil.

When Noah and his family emerged from the ark after the Great Flood, God made him a promise [Genesis 8:30-22], and a sign to remember that promise by [Genesis 9:8-17]. The sign was a rainbow, and the promise was that God would never again destroy all living things, as he had done with the Great Flood.

Author Robin Parrish delivers a thought-provoking tale of "what if" with his Dominion trilogy, coming on strong in book one, laying a solid foundation in book two, and closing with a bang in book three.

If you enjoy mystery, suspense, and intrigue, you cannot be disappointed with the Dominion trilogy.

My Little Trick Or Treaters

Halloween Pumpkins and Podcasts

This evening, we carved the kids Halloween pumpkins. It's an annual tradition for us, following our annual pumpkin hunt, which we did last week. The kids actually design their pumpkin faces, drawing directly on them with a ballpoint pen (fainter lines that make it easier to erase mistakes). My wife cuts the top off and guts the pumpkin, then I do the carving. I'm not the best pumpkin carver in the world, and my kids are kids and design pumpkins like kids (though I think they did quite a job of it this year), so our pumpkins are just simple little pumpkins.

My daughter wanted her pumpkin to look especially happy this year, and I think she achieved her goal.

APPLICATION: The past three months or so at work have been chaos. There were times when I was ready to tender an immediate resignation -- times when I would have done so if the situation was right. I've spoken with two prospetive employers during this, as I seriously consider a change. But not once have I actually felt that the decision was mine to make. We had a family prayer before one interview. A simple prayer, really: "Lord, if this be Your will, make it so. We put our faith in You." The Lord has always provided for us, and I have no reason to think He would stop now. My life is His. The path I walk is His path.

PRAYER: Thank You, Father, for Your reliable provision and guidance. As always, I place my faith fully in You. Show me the way.
